A Look Back at July
July has been filled with drawing, painting, sculpture, building, and experimentation. Working across different materials gives us a chance to notice how each student thinks, what they are drawn to, and what makes their work feel personal.
Students build a foundation in observation, composition, color, and technique, then use those skills to make more individual choices. As the saying goes, “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”

Every project begins with observation and planning, but no two students arrive at the same solution.
Painting, sculpture, mixed media, and building each encourage different ways of thinking. By working across materials, students discover not only new techniques, but also new ways to express their own ideas.

Strong creative work begins with a solid foundation. Students practice observation, composition, value, color, and material control, then use those skills to experiment, make individual choices, and develop their own visual voice.
Looking Ahead to August
Summer camp is in full swing at TONGWOOD, and most August weeks are nearly full. The week of August 10 still has several spots available for both full-week registration and selected drop-in days.
