Service Description

► Class Overview Painting & Drawing is a technique-focused class for ages 7–9 and 10–14 in Brookline, offered in separate age groups. Each project introduces a different subject — still life, landscape, portrait, or open-ended composition — using a different medium, so students are always learning something new and never repeating the same experience. The teacher begins each session by walking through the key challenges of the subject, then demonstrates the technique step by step. Students follow along, applying what they've just seen to their own work. The teacher moves through the class individually, observing and correcting in the moment. Projects are designed to take more than one session to complete — typically 1–2 weeks for ages 7–9, and 2 weeks or longer for ages 10–14. This gives students the time to work carefully, refine their decisions, and develop a finished piece they're genuinely proud of. ► What a Typical Session Looks Like Each 90-minute class follows a consistent structure: - Observation and discussion — the teacher introduces the subject and walks through the key technical challenges - Demonstration — the teacher shows the technique step by step before students begin - Guided practice — students work on their own piece while the teacher provides individual feedback and correction - Continuing the project — for multi-session projects, students pick up where they left off and keep developing their work - Wrap-up — a moment to look at where everyone is. Feel free to ask us to take a photo before you head out. ► What Students Will Learn - Core techniques in sketching, shading, color mixing, and composition - How to observe a subject carefully and translate it into their own work - How different media — watercolor, acrylic, pencil, charcoal, and more — behave and how to use them intentionally - How to work through a longer project with patience and focus - For older students: how to make increasingly independent decisions about their own work ► Additional Information - All essential supplies are provided - Classes are grouped by age: 7–9 and 10–14 - Maximum 6 students per class - Projects typically span multiple sessions — 1–2 weeks for ages 7–9, and 2 weeks or longer for ages 10–14 - Online booking closes 12 hours before class — for last-minute reservations, call or text 617-842-5679
