Art for the Season

Explore October at TONGWOOD Art Center in Brookline, featuring kids' art projects, Halloween activities, The Little Soirée, and Winter Art Camp.

Fall brings warm colors, falling leaves, and plenty of inspiration to the studio. Before the last leaves fall, we’re picking up our paintbrushes to capture what we see around us.

And there's plenty more to look forward to at TONGWOOD! Our Spring & Summer Art Camps are now open for registration! Next year marks our 5th year of our studio, and we're celebrating with a special selection of creative projects. We're planning our most exciting camp season yet, so get a head start and save your spot!

Winter Term is just around the corner! Let's find the perfect class and time slot for your little artist to keep creating through the colder months.

Here's what's happening in the studio this November!

What We’re Making in November

Before we begin, we take time to plan. From planning compositions and designing outfits for their little bears to transforming everyday materials into 3D artwork, our young artists are always encouraged to think differently.

Along the way, they explore new materials, develop painting techniques, strengthen pencil grip and fine motor skills, and learn what they can do with different tools and materials.

After a month of Halloween-inspired creations, we're dedicating November to building a stronger foundation in drawing and painting foundations before the Christmas projects begin!

From still-life sketching to landscape painting, students will develop their observation skills, explore proportions, composition, color, and shading, and build confidence through practice. Each age group will explore these skills at their own level, with more advanced techniques and challenges for our older artists.

Studio Halloween Selections

Our Halloween creations began with a simple still-life sketch. Depending on the class, students started with sketches of skulls, pumpkins, or hands, then added ghosts and other Halloween details to tell their own stories.

What we love most is discovering the story behind each painting and seeing how our young artists combine different materials to bring their ideas to life.

Winter Term

Nothing is better than making art with friends in a warm, cozy studio while watching the snow fall outside.

From Christmas projects to our big Lunar New Year art project, there’s so much we look forward to every winter. This year, we’ll celebrate the Year of the Goat. Each child will bring their own ideas and New Year wishes to their artwork, then take it home to share with family. We hope it finds a special spot in your home and brings a little happiness and good luck for the year ahead.

Give the Gift of Growth
