Hi TONGWOOD fam and friends,

June marks the close of the school year and the beginning of our summer studio season. Weekday art classes will wrap up the week of June 19, while summer programming will continue through art camps and weekend studio classes.

Scroll down to see the upcoming projects we have designed for our students this month.

UPCOMING PROJECTS

Studio Art projects for kids at TONGWOOD Art Center, featuring mixed media, illustration, drawing, craft, and still life artwork.
Painting and drawing projects for kids and teens at TONGWOOD Art Center, featuring watercolor, acrylic painting, still life, sketching, and final student artwork.

Studio Art This month’s Studio Art projects explore insects, family, underwater worlds, flowers, and symbols through paper construction, clay, collage, painting, and mixed media. Project images are references for materials and structure, not samples to copy. Students will add their own details, make choices, and build personal versions of each work.

Painting & Drawing

Students will study still life, flowers, light and shadow, and symbolic subjects through charcoal, acrylic painting, and watercolor.

The focus is on line, value, color, composition, and visual control. Older students may spend more than one class developing each piece, allowing more time for detail and technique.

A FEW PIECES FROM MAY

Small-size group art class

May brought many meaningful studio moments.

Our older students continued developing their large-scale paintings, with several pieces now close to completion. We’re looking forward to seeing the final works come together.

We also saw thoughtful Mother’s Day projects, where students used color, detail, and personal choices to create work for their families.
