Turning Dreams
into Action
TONGWOOD began with Yajun’s childhood experience of growing up in a rigid school system that often overlooked individuality. After moving to Boston, her high school teachers helped her discover her strengths and opened doors to the arts. From that moment, she dreamed of becoming a teacher who could help children find their own value. With Todd’s support, that dream became TONGWOOD, a community art center built on creativity, connection, and growth, where every child feels seen and inspired.
UNVEILING INNER LANDSCAPES
We believe art is more than skills. At TONGWOOD, we help students use their skills to express emotions, explore creativity, and discover the joy of making. Every student is encouraged to find confidence and see the beauty in everyday life.
Independence
We built TONGWOOD from the ground up. We transformed a space that had been vacant for 13 years into studios, designed courses, and created our website. It has never been easy, but independence gives us freedom. We value this spirit and continue to grow into the most spirited art center we can be.
FROM TWO TO A TEAM
In our second year, TONGWOOD grew from just the two of us into a team of more than ten. Each new member brought fresh ideas, energy, and support. Together, we learned the importance of teamwork in shaping our future.
Family First
Even while building TONGWOOD Yajun and Todd valued balance. We cherish time with our cat Fufu and the simple joys of art and life. Working as both partners and creators has taught us harmony. It is a balance we share with our students and community.

TONGWOOD is more than an art center. It is a bridge that connects families, friends and communities. Through classes, events and collaborations we create spaces where people come together to learn, share and grow.
